Pandemic fans and supporters of SDSU college football throw the refs, MWC, and league officials under the bus over a missed fumble.
After their loss to BYU, some SDSU fans displayed the worst form I’ve seen when they threw the MWC, BYU, and the LDS church under the bus.
I can’t help but think about the sad state of our fandom when we pull antics like this.
Granted, it’s this level of passion that makes college football so fun. To be honest, I get as rowdy as the next guy... when I’m in the privacy of my own home.
My spouse hates the game, but she sticks around just to watch us rant at the refs, players, and coaches - as if they can hear us through the T.V. screen.
Our display is like watching bull apes compete during the height of mating season. Testosterone fills the room and we virtually stomp around and beat our chests.
In the words of Maurice Sendak, “We roar our terrible roars and gnash our terrible teeth” for the better part of a Saturday afternoon.
I took the time to review the game after the stink some SDSU fans and a certain radio host made about the game.
It became obvious that some of the calls were very interesting; however, none of them merit the suspension of officials or staff for cheating.
For example, the out-of-bounds catch made by Dominique Sandifer on the BYU 1.
Recall that SDSU was 3rd-and-G (on the BYU 9) when he made that amazing catch. His feet were even in bounds. Wow! What a play.
Unfortunately his shoulder slid out of bounds as he reached out
to catch the ball. The refs called this a complete pass, setting up a 3rd quarter, Ryan Lindley - Gavin Escobar, TD pass that put SDSU within 3.
Then, there was the ominous, 4th quarter, JJ Di Luigi, fumble. I watched it probably 20 times...
Yup! He fumbled it, but only after two SDSU defensive backs helped him do it by grabbing his face mask.
Oh! By the way, BYU scored shortly thereafter.
My vote is that both the SDSU and BYU drives get reversed. The game ends at 17-14, we all cowboy up and stop whining about it.
Anybody game for a group hug? Where’s the marshmallows and chocolate bars?
